Technologischer Fortschritt, vor allem neue Möglichkeiten der elektronischen Datenverarbeitung und die Vernetztheit digitaler Geräte, ermöglichen zunehmend komplexere und obskurere Methoden der Datensammlung und Datenauswertung. Damit werden Datenschutz und das Recht auf Privatsphäre auf eine neue Art gefährdet. Vor diesem Hintergrund ruft die Ethikinitiative des EDPS zu einem breiten Verständnis von Privatsphäre und Datenschutz als Kernwerte zum Schutz der Menschenwürde, menschlicher Selbstbestimmung und unserer demokratischen Systeme auf.
