Patronage

The EDPS considers requests to be a goodwill patron for events that would like to be associated with the EDPS. Such patronage would imply support in kind from the EDPS and does not place the EDPS under any financial obligation, nor does it confer a right to use EDPS’ facilities. A limited number of events will be granted such patronage every year.

Eligibility criteria

Events such as conferences, debates, seminars, summer schools, etc. may receive the EDPS’ patronage, provided they have a clear European dimension, in particular by highlighting the EDPS’ or the European Union’s role and contribution in the field of data protection and privacy.
Eligible events must be of limited duration and have a significant outreach. Particular attention is paid to the extent to which the event raises awareness and promotes fundamental rights related to data protection and privacy.
Patronage cannot be granted to events with a commercial nature or purpose, neither to events with party-political or a religious nature. Events and/or organisers undermining the basic democratic values and principles of the European Union will be excluded.
If the conditions of eligibility are no longer met by an event for which patronage has been granted, the EDPS may withdraw, at any moment, the decision to grant patronage.
For further information on the conditions for patronage, please read the Decision of the EDPS adopting rules governing patronage at the EDPS.
