In  this episode, we discuss the emerging risks that Gen Z and Gen Alpha may face when using social media, from fake news, behavioural advertising, to the abhorrent crime of online child sexual abuse.

According to the European Parliament, it is reported that suspected online child sexual abuse has increased by 35% from 2021 to 2022, most of which were hosted in Europe. In this context, this episode focuses on the EDPS and EDPB’s Joint Opinion on the Proposed Regulation to combat child sexual abuse material and its impact on data protection. We discuss, with Anna Colaps, Member of the EDPS Cabinet, some of the main current concerns in relation to new digital services and social media. In addition, we briefly explain the EDPB decision regarding Facebook and Instagram and whether or not the processing of personal data for the performance of a contract is a suitable legal basis for behavioural advertising.
