Europe Day 2020

Saturday 9 May 2020 marks the 70th anniversary of the 'Schuman declaration'. At a speech in Paris in 1950, Robert Schuman, the then French foreign minister, set out his idea for a new form of political cooperation in Europe, which would make war between Europe's nations unthinkable.

Schuman's proposal is considered to be the beginning of what is now the European Union and so 9 May is also known as Europe Day. Every year, the EU institutions typically open their doors to the public for the occasion and celebrate peace and unity across the continent.

This year however, with the spread of Covid-19, the world faces a public health crisis. Therefore, the European Data Protection Supervisor, like all the European Institutions, will not be able to personally showcase the work we do or interact with the public on our stand at EU Open Day as in past years.

Instead, to commemorate Europe Day and to highlight the importance of the right to data protection even in times of crisis, we bring you a fun quiz.
