Workshop: Data Protection within International Organisations 2022

The EDPS and the World Food Programme are co-organising the 2022 edition of the Data Protection Workshop within International Organisations. The workshop will take place on 12–13 May at the WFP premises in Rome.

This workshop, initiated by the EDPS in 2005, aims to bring together international organisations to:

  • Share experience and best practice in the field of data protection and analyse its impact as part of good governance within international organisations;
  • Summarise the most recent regulatory developments at international level in the area of privacy and data protection and analyse the potential implications of such developments for international organisations;
  • Analyse the state of play of data protection within international organisations;
  • Discuss the progress made since the last workshop

Although the EDPS hosted an online edition in October 2020, the last in-person meeting took place in 2019, before COVID-19 went global. The data protection landscape has been impacted dramatically by the pandemic and subsequent events requiring IOs to act, particularly in the humanitarian field. The workshop’s rationale of bringing together international organisations to share experience, practice and analysis of common challenges appears more relevant than ever. Topics to be discussed include data subjects' rights, data breach response, international data transfers, privacy risk management and disinformation.
