High-Level Debate on Competition, Innovation and Data Protection

On 3 June 2025, the European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS), the German Federal Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (BfDI), and the Bavarian Data Protection Commissioner (BayLfD), are organising a high-level debate to reflect on recent developments relating to the EU's Digital Rulebook. The event is kindly hosted by the Representation of the Free State of Bavaria to the European Union.

When: 3 June 2025, 18:30 to 20:30 (accreditation opens at 18:00), followed by a reception
Where: Representation of the Free State of Bavaria to the European Union, Brussels.

The event will bring together key stakeholders to reflect on recent developments relating to the EU Digital Rulebook. Legislation enacted in recent years - including the Digital Services Act, the Digital Markets Act, the Data Act and the Artificial Intelligence Act - underscore the importance of the processing of personal data for today's digital economy. At the same time, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) aims to ensure individuals' fundamental rights in the digital environment.

The high-level debate will focus on the need for a consistent and coherent implementation of the GDPR and the EU's Digital Rulebook and cooperation between the different competent digital regulators to ensure the effective protection of citizens, foster innovation, and support the Union's competitiveness.

Further details on the programme and registration process will be available soon.

The EDPS has recently proposed to establish a Digital Clearinghouse 2.0 that would provide authorities and bodies competent to enforce EU laws in the digital economy with a forum to exchange and coordinate on issues of common interest, to align at the level of policies and legal interpretations.
