European Border Surveillance System (EUROSUR)

EDPS comments on the Commission proposal for establishing the European Border Surveillance System (EUROSUR)

The EDPS has provided comments on the Commission proposal for establishing the European Border Surveillance System (EUROSUR). EUROSUR is meant to enhance cooperation between Member States' authorities competent for border surveillance and control on the EU's southern and eastern borders.

While the proposal is not meant to establish a system for the processing of personal data, they may be processed in certain exceptional cases. The EDPS calls on the legislator to clearly delineate and regulate these exceptions.
