Datenschutz in Zeiten von Vorratsdatenspeicherung, SWIFT, Trier

Diese Tagung bietet die Gelegenheit, eine Reihe von aktuellen Themen zu erörtern, insbesondere:

  • Welche technischen Mittel im Bereich der Datensammlung und des Datenaustauschs sind für eine wirksame Strafverfolgung notwendig?
  • Wie kann diesen Bedürfnissen im Rahmen eines europäischen Modells hinsichtlich des Austauschs Informationen ('EU information exchange model') Rechnung getragen werden?
  • Wie wird sich Datenaustausch zwischen der EU und den USA zukünftig gestalten - nach den Kontroversen um das SWIFT-Übereinkommen?
  • Wie ist der Stand der Dinge betreffend den Austausch von Fluggastdaten und ein allgemeines Datenschutzübereinkommen mit den USA?
  • Welche Bedeutung hat die EuGH-Entscheidung betreffend die Unabhängigkeit der deutschen Datenschutzbehörden?
  • Welche Aspekte des Urteils des Bundesverfassungsgerichts zur Vorratsdatenspeicherung sind relevant auch für andere Mitgliedstaaten?
  • Wie funktioniert der Datenaustauch nach dem Mechanismus des Prümer Vertrages in der Praxis?

3. Workshop über Datenschutz in internationalen Organisationen, Florenz

The European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS), in cooperation with the European University Institute (EUI), will organise the third Data Protection Workshop on International Organisations on 27 and 28 May 2010 at Theatre, Badia Fiesolana, European University Institute in Florence, Italy. This workshop, bringing together various international organisations as well as professors in a separate academic session, aims to tackle some of the pervasive issues concerning privacy and data protection that exist today.

Europa-Festival in Brüssel - Tag der offenen Tür bei den europäischen Institutionen

Visitors filling in the EDPS quiz during EU Open Day

Am Samstag von 11.00 bis 15.00 Uhr, empfing das Personal des Europäischen Datenschutzbeauftragten (EDSB) die Besucher an seinen Infostand im europäischen Parlament (ASP Gebäude, Hauptstraße). Auf dem EDSB Infostand wurden die Besucher eingeladen, an einem Quiz über den Datenschutz teilzunehmen. Die Veranstaltung wurde im Rahmen des Tages der offenen Tür bei den europäischen Institutionen organisiert.

Unter den richtigen Antworten des Gewinnspiels, wurden 10 Gewinner ausgelost, die jeweils einen gesicherten USB-Key gewonnen haben.

3rd International Computers, Privacy and Data Protection Conference, Brussels

The conference on "Computers, Privacy and Data Protection – CPDP 2010" aims to create a bridge between policymakers, academics, practitioners and activists, exchange ideas and discuss emerging issues of information technology, privacy, data protection and law.

This year’s conference theme is "An Element of Choice" as a reference to the many options open for data protection policy.

Members of the EDPS secretariat have taken part to panel discussions. Peter Hustinx has provided the concluding notes to the conference.

Data Protection Day - 4th edition

 

 

The Member States of the Council of Europe and the European institutions and bodies celebrated the European Data Protection Day for the fourth time on 28 January 2010. This date marks the anniversary of the Council of Europe's Convention 108 on the protection of personal data, the first legally binding international instrument related to the field of data protection.

The event gives the EDPS and Data Protection Officers the opportunity to focus on raising awareness among the EU staff about their rights and obligations regarding data protection - these rights and obligations are set out in the Data Protection Regulation, the implementation of which is supervised by the EDPS.

 To mark the event, a one-day information stand was set up on three consecutive days in the main institutions:

  • Council: 26 January 2009; 11.30 - 15.00
    Justus Lipsius Building, Atrium
  • European Commission: 27 January 2009; 11.30 - 15.00
    Berlaymont building , main entrance hall (Piazza, close to the restaurant)
  • European Parliament: 28 January 2009; 11.30 - 15.00
    ASP building, main street

Visitors were invited to participate to a quiz concerning data protection. Within the correct answers, a lottery awarded 10 USB keys. You will find the quiz below with the correct answers.

Peter Hustinx also spoke at a lunchtime debate entitled "Privacy and data protection: how does it affect you?" on 28 January. The presentation was mainly aimed at staff members from the European Commission and took place in DG Admin (Guimard).
