Jedes Jahr am 28. Januar begehen die Mitgliedstaaten des Europarates und die EU-Einrichtungen den Datenschutztag. Es markiert den Jahrestag der Datenschutzkonvention des Europarates, bekannt als „Konvention 108“. Es war das erste verbindliche internationale Gesetz über die Rechte des Einzelnen auf den Schutz seiner personenbezogenen Daten.
